התחלנו את הסדרה עם מיכל ברז"ל כהן שפגשנו בנובמבר 2021 בתל אביב. מיכל נולדה בחיפה, איפה שחשיפה לזיהום של מתקני הזיקוק יצרה אצלה מודעות סביבתית מאוד גבוהה. מירושלים עד לאנגליה ובחזרה לתל אביב, מיכל למדה על בשרה להיות אקטיביסטית בשטח.
מהו "ירוק במקום בטון"?
מתחם קריית ספר בלב תל אביב היה פעם אזור של מגרשי חניה וגרוטאות רכב. על אף מחסור חמור בשטחים ירוקים באזור לב העיר, ולמרות שהמתחם היה האזור הפתוח האחרון בשכונה שאפשר להפוך אותו לפארק, מנהל מקרקעי ישראל (ממ"י) יחד עם העירייה תכננו לבנות בו 14 מגדלים.
במחאה, תושבת האזור מיכל ברז"ל כהן הקימה את "ירוק במקום בטון – ארגון ועדי לב תל אביב", ארגון מתנדבים/ות של תושבי/ות לב ת"א-יפו. מטרת הארגון למנוע את הקמת המגדלים במתחם קריית ספר, ובמקומם לבנות בו גינה ציבורית, ובה בריכה ואקו־מתנ"ס לצרכי הקהילה.
בשביל לקבוע עובדות בשטח, תושבי השכונה ארגנו עליו אירועים ציבוריים ביניהם: תערוכת ציורי ילדים, תערוכה של 66 אמנים בבית ביאליק, ולא פחות מ־160 פיקניקים מאז 2008. במקביל, מאבק מוצלח שמיכל הובילה באופן אישי לשימור בניין מפ"י ההיסטורי הנמצא במתחם, ביטל את תכנית הבנייה של ממ"י והעירייה. ביוני 2011 ביהמ"ש המחוזי הכריע לטובת התושבים, ובמרץ 2013, לאחר מאבק של מעל 16 שנה, נפתח גן קריית ספר לציבור הרחב.

1. אומנות מושכת קהלים. אקטיביסטים רבים נתקלים בקושי להביא אנשים ולגייס את הקהילה. אנשים מפחדים להוציא את האף ולהגיד "אני נגד משהו". אבל כשמביאים להם משהו קליל, כיפי, מין פעילות גיבוש שכונתית, הרבה יותר קל להם להצטרף. אפשר להביע הכל דרך האומנות, יהא זה סטאנד־אפ, סרטון, או תיאטרון בובות.
2. תמיד להקשיב לסובבינו, במיוחד ילדים. לתפוס שיחה עם השכנים, להבין מה מפריע להם והם רוצים לשנות, ולעשות רשימה מסודרת עם אג'נדה אחת ברורה. תמיד יש מה ללמוד מהמנוסים, והכי חשוב להקשיב לילדים; כי ילדים הם ישרים ויש להם רעיונות יצירתיים.
3. לרתום את המשאבים האנושיים שנמצאים סביבינו. חשוב לאתר מסביבנו בעלי מקצוע ואנשים עם כשרונות. ליצור חזון יחד עם השכנים, שאחד זה גרפיקאי, השנייה יודעת לערוך סרטים, לשלישי יש כישורים מנהיגותיים, והרביעית יודעת ליצור שלטים להפגנות. לאתר כמה שיותר, ולבנות קבוצה.
4. למצוא את הייחוד של המקום. האם זה מקום בעל חשיבות היסטוריות? האם אפשר להפוך אותו לאתר מורשת היסטורית לשימור? לשנות את הייעוד של הקרקע? וטיימינג. למצוא בממסד את מי שיעזור לנצח את הממסד.
5. אף פעם לא לוותר על החזון. שיהיה חלום, גם כשהדרך ארוכה ומאתגרת. שינויים מצריכים המון זמן. להאמין ולדמיין את השינוי קורה. נחישות ואידיאולוגיה חזקה עוזרים להתמיד לאורך זמן. ותמיד להקשיב לקול הפנימי, שיודע מה צריך לעשות.
